~ a Sponge…

Yip…if there was one word I’d use to describe myself that would be it.

Now before you take this the wrong way and ask whether I’m known for ‘sponging’ off others, let me explain…

I love information.

As far back as I can remember it was never enough for me to know that the internal combustion engine was simply there to propel a car forward.

Heck no…I wanted to know:

  • how the gears worked
  • When exactly do you start pressing the accelerator pedal while disengaging the clutch in order to change gears smoothly
  • In fact, here’s a question for you car fundi’s…How does a Direct Shift Gearbox (A type of gearbox which automatically selects second gear as soon as you select first gear) know whether you’re going to be changing up or down for its next selection?
  • And while we’re on that subject…How on earth can a diesel engine outperform a petrol engine of the same size? Dammit, don’t they know that diesel engines belong on trucks not cars.

So when it comes to insurance. I want to know why!

  • Why is it that your life insurance instalments go up every year while your life cover stays the same year after year?
  • What happens to my life insurance once the guarantee term falls away?
  • Is it really cheaper for me to take out life insurance when I’m young versus when I’m fifty?
  • Would the insurance pay out if I died in a car accident while driving drunk?
  • Why when I’m insured for R200, 000 contents cover – under my motor and household insurance – do they refuse to pay the full R50, 000 loss when I claim (and that’s my first claim since I started with them ten years ago!)?

Listen, I’ve been involved with insurance for the past nine years, so by now I have many of these questions and their answers down pat, but… if you have any questions that haven’t been answered in this blog…then why not drop me an email and let’s see if I can find the answer!

One final question…should I sue my cartoonist ?
